An octahedron is a polyhedron composed of eight triangular faces. The table below shows the dimple patterns which use this layout, and how many dimples each triangular section contains.
An hexahedron is a cube, which is a polyhedron composed of six quadrilateral faces. The table below shows the dimple patterns which use this layout, and how many dimples each section contains.
A dodecahedron is a polyhedron composed of twelve pentagonal faces. It is a fairly common used layout in dimple patterns. The table below shows the dimple patterns which use this layout, and how many dimples each pentagonal section contains.
An icosidodecahedron is a polyhedron composed of 12 pentagonal and 20 triangular faces. It is a very common used layout occuring on many Maxfli and Wilson golf balls. The table below shows the dimple patterns which use this layout, and how many dimples both types of faces contains. The total number of dimples on a golf ball with this pattern may be calculated by: 12 x [pentagon dimples] + 20 x [triangle dimples].
A cuboctahedron is a polyhedron composed of six quadrilaterals (squares) and 8 triangles. It is a fairly common used layout in dimple patterns. The table below shows the dimple patterns which use this layout, and how many dimples both types of faces contains. The total number of dimples in a cuboctahedral pattern may be calculated by: 6 x [quadrilateral dimples] + 8 x [triangle dimples].
A tetrahedron is a polyhedron composed of four triangular faces, like a three-sided pyramid. It is featured on a number of popular Titleist balls. The table below shows the dimple patterns which use this layout, and how many dimples each pentagonal section contains.
An icosahedron is a polyhedron composed of 20 equal triangular faces.
It is by far the most used dimple layout type. In an icosahedral pattern, the seam of the two ball halves runs trough half of the
triangles. This often distorts the regularity of the icosahedron, and causes the equatorial triangles to be misaligned.
The table below shows the dimple patterns which use
this layout, and how many dimples each triangular section contains.
